Traveling with your Lap Band
A common worry after getting a gastric band in St. Petersburg is how traveling will be affected by this change. Lap Bands can require a great deal of changes to your lifestyle if you want to be successful. However, this doesn’t mean that you should stay close to home after your surgery. Going on trips is easy with Lap Band, it just requires some planning.
Long plane trips can mean trouble since food and drinks can be strictly rationed. Pack away some protein-rich snacks like nuts, fruit and protein powder to eat while in flight. Since you can’t carry bottled water through security, buy a bottle or two while you’re in the airport.
Keep water, nuts, protein powder and protein bars on you at all times. This will keep you from going off plan and grabbing a high-calorie snack on the run. If you have healthy snacks, you’ll not only save money but you’ll keep yourself accountable.
Meals can be the most difficult part of a vacation, since you’ll be tempted with lots of high-fat courses, unhealthy drinks and, of course, desserts. Start your day with a healthy, protein-rich breakfast to get yourself on the right foot. For lunch and dinner, get something that’s delicious and high in protein, such as grilled chicken or a piece of steamed fish. Add on a side of whatever vegetable sounds good. Watch out for any sauces that come with your meal. As for dessert, sneak a bite off someone else’s plate rather than getting your own.
Finally, just because you’re on vacation doesn’t mean you can’t exercise. Take a bike ride through a park, go on a hike or stroll through a museum. Being active is easier after getting a gastric band in St. Petersburg, so take advantage of it.
