Exercising Your Core

Often times, core exercises are the hardest to incorporate into our regular workout routine and sometimes it is difficult to know the best core exercises that give us the optimal amount of benefit with the least amount of work.

There are a variety of core exercises that you can do that will immensely help with your recovery from bariatric surgery and maintaining a healthy abdominal fat level and weight. These core exercises can also be done with a lap band so that they will be effective in helping to maintain the results you have achieved thus far and build off them to achieve your optimum level of fitness. There are many gyms in Tampa Bay where you can go to do these exercises in a group setting with classes or they can be done at home alone.

A great quick and easy core workout is to do a plank, which involves holding your abdomen up with your arms straight and hands shoulder width apart. This can be followed with a side plank, which is done by lying on your side and putting your arm out, with your forearm against the floor while lifting your torso up so that your back is straight and you are facing the side of the room. The plank is a great core exercise since it engages all the muscles of the core, especially the rectus abdominis and the internal and external obliques.

Another effective and easy core exercise is the simple crunch, which involves you lying on your back with your knees up and feet flat against the ground. You proceed by lifting up your head towards your knees, by lifting your head up about 1/4 of the way to your knees. This is a fantastic core exercise that serves to strengthen your entire core.
