Dr. Bunch: Kelly can you tell me when your surgery was for your Lap Band?

Kelly: My Surgery was February of 07.

Dr. Bunch: And how have you done since then?

Kelly: I’m doing great. I love it, it’s the best decision I’ve ever made. I was 248 pounds originally and I am 139 as of today.

Dr. Bunch: Oh wow that’s great. Do you find it’s hard to live with the Lap Band or is it an easy adjustment for you?

Kelly: Its very easy, very easy. You follow the diet restrictions. I wouldn’t call them restrictions; it’s a way of life. And I’m very happy. I grocery shop different, I cook different, but it’s an adjustment that is definitely well worth it.

Dr. Bunch: To a healthier lifestyle.

Kelly: Very much so yes.

Dr. Bunch: When was the last time your band was adjusted?

Kelly: June of 07.

Dr.  Bunch: June of 07. And you’ve maintained that weight loss the whole way without having to make any adjustments since then?

Kelly: Correct.

Dr. Bunch: On average how many band adjustments do you think you’ve had total? If you had to just guess at it.

Kelly: I believe I’ve had five. Five after the surgery.

Dr. Bunch: Great. We’re glad you’re doing well.

Dr. Bunch: So Kelly, now that you’re a Lap Band patient can you take us through maybe the breakfast, the lunch, and the dinner. Or your snacks, or how you eat on a daily basis.

Kelly: Sure. I basically eat anything I want, but I eat five or six times a day. So I eat small portions. I eat a lot of protein, because that stays with me longer. I eat a lot of vegetables, a lot of fruit, but I also if I want chocolate or something I have a bag of Hershey Kisses that I keep at my house. So I might have one or two of those as a treat for chocolate. I don’t eat candy bars anymore, or a lot of brownies, cookies, cakes, anything like that. Occasionally I will if I want that I have that, but I have a very small portion of it.

Dr. Bunch: And you feel like you can control that?

Kelly: Yes, yes I do.

Dr. Bunch: You think the Lap Band helps with that?

Kelly: Yes, yes absolutely it does.

Dr. Bunch: Ok Kelly, can you tell us when you have an adjustment what’s that like to you? What kind have trauma did that cause you. Your first adjustment and then the rest of them after that.

Kelly: It’s very easy; it’s very similar to getting a shot. That’s basically what it feels like. It’s not real painful, just like getting a shot and then it’s done. It happens within a matter of seconds.

Dr. Bunch: Did you have to get anesthetic to get it done, like at the dentist? Or did you just have it filled without?

Kelly: Without.

I had my surgery 1 year and 9 months ago. I have lost over 146 lbs. I am extremely happy and the staff at BSG was wonderful. They are the only ones I would recommend for the Lap Band surgery. The one thing that made my Lap Band journey easier was the personal service I received.

How has my life changed since losing almost 140 pounds? The question is more, how has it not changed. There is not one thing that I can think of that has not been healed or improved.
